We are currently working with our client, an established restoration and general contracting company with 50 years of proven history in serving the needs of our wide spectrum of clientele: commercial, industrial, residential and insurance sector

 

The Ideal Candidate:

The Health and Safety Supervisor’s responsibility is to identify operational, physical and environmental factors that may cause or contribute to accidents or injury. We are looking for someone who has provided health and safety support to field operations and has expert level knowledge of H&S legislation. WITH COR IMPLEMENTATION EXPERIENCE.

 

 

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Site inspections – visiting various sites and conducting inspections to ensure compliance and safe use of equipment
  • Providing guidance and support to site staff as well as sub-contractors
  • Coordinating Site safety orientations for new workers
  • Accompanying third party inspectors during site inspections and reporting all issues
  • Assisting in the completion of injury/accident reports for injured workers
  • Lead the company to achieve their COR accreditation.
  • H&S Manual – maintaining existing and keeping up to date with relevant information
  • H&S Policies – maintaining existing and creating new H&S policies to minimize potential risks and injuries in compliance with legislation
  • Management relations – advise Managers on H&S issues, assist them with communication, provide coaching and support on specific employee issues
  • Risk analysis – identify existing or potential risks associated with specific tasks or equipment; develop and implement plans and policies to address the risks
  • Coordinate and lead investigations, inspections, audits
  • Employee relations – act as a point of contact and resource for H&S issues for all employees, promote a positive safety culture
  • Training – create and facilitate H&S training (WHMIS, lock out, fall protection etc.) for employees and managers, manage the training database and monitor renewal dates for certifications, ensure new employees receive complete training
  • Lead and participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings, ensure that all action items are followed up on
  • Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks can be reduced
  • Work on health and safety projects as required

 

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • University degree or college diploma in Health and Safety, or Industrial Relations an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of health and safety experience in a leadership role within the construction industry (field operations)
  • Expert knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations and Construction Regulations
  • Demonstrate a high level of accountability
  • Ability to improve processes and develop safe work procedures
  • Experience delivering safety orientations, training and Tool Box Talks to individuals and groups
  • Practiced documentation and report writing skills; maintain documentation and inspection records and meeting minutes.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, consistent with documentation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good team player, positive attitude, flexible and adaptable
  • Experience creating and facilitating training programs
  • Solid relationship builder, strong negotiation skills, ability to explain safety programs to employees and get buy in
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal need for supervision, including excellent follow-through skills
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Windows applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and ability to prepare accurate reports in a timely manner
  • Ability to implement and improve systems; enforce standards and procedures and minimize non-conformance of standards
  • Ability to competently analyze and prioritize information to make appropriate recommendations
