Intermediate Accountant

We are currently partnered with a rapidly growing company in the Construction and Manufacturing industry sector, that specializes in commercial window and railing systems. They are currently looking for an Intermediate Accountant to handle all aspects of their project accounting and selected corporate accounting activities.

 

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the Senior Accountant’s job description will include, but not be limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Preparation of the monthly balance sheet and inter-company reconciliations;
  • Maintaining and updating the Fixed Asset Ledger and Lease schedules on a monthly basis;
  • Performing monthly bank reconciliations;
  • Performing monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, and preparing schedules for the Financial Controller;
  • Preparing and posting monthly journal entries, ensuring transactions are posted to the appropriate company and G/L accounts;
  • Reviewing A/P and A/R accruals for accuracy and completeness;
  • Preparing analyses and schedules for projects by company;
  • Facilitating wire transfers for US and Canadian bank accounts, as required;
  • Preparing and submitting GST/HST, WSIB, and EHT remittances and following up with the appropriate authorities on related matters;
  • Providing input for weekly cash flow;
  • Updating project worksheets ensuring accuracy and completeness;
  • Determining revenue recognition by projects;
  • Providing support to Corporate Accountant in processing progress billings, Statutory Declarations, and WSIB certificates;
  • Performing monthly variance analyses by projects; and,
  • Performing other accounting duties or special projects as assigned by the Financial Controller.


 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance;
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years working experience in a construction or manufacturing environment;
  • CPA, CGA, CMA designation preferred, or working towards completion;
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite of products including above-average Excel skills; and,
  • Experienced in Sage 300 ERP or similar accounting system
