Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct, coordinate and assist installation of new automated welding and assembly equipment
  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing processes
  • Provides expertise in executing all aspects of assigned projects including initial feasibility studies, equipment design, evaluation and selection
  • Identify, lead and support cost savings projects
  • Consults with equipment suppliers in finalizing equipment / system proposals
  • Analytical troubleshooting in mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and software controls areas
  • Identify safety, quality and productivity deficiencies and implement countermeasures
  • Support Maintenance department with troubleshooting, training and reducing equipment downtime.
  • Occasional travel might be required

Requirements & Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of PLC controls software design, HMI design and programming, system start-up and troubleshooting
  • In-depth knowledge of robotic welding and material handling applications
  • Electronics knowledge/experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication and organizational skills
  • Must be a team player in a fast paced work environment
  • Motivation / commitment, adaptability and ability to effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Analytical troubleshooting
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision

Desired Skills and Assets

  • Knowledge of robotic spot welding and mig-welding
  • Knowledge of Scada system design / knowledge
  • Knowledge of CSA / PSHSR requirements / standards
  • Experience with Omron PLC’s and/or Motoman robotics

Education & Experience

  • Engineering Technology or Technician Diploma
  • Minimum 3 years robotic and PLC controls experience (hands on) in an automotive welding manufacturing environment
  • Intermediate/Advanced computer skills
