Our Client

Our client a leading Contractor in road construction and municipal projects across Ontario is seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager for their South-Western Ontario operation. The successful candidate will have experience in managing mid to large road and municipal projects and exposure to working with the MTO. This organization is well known for it’s team environment and is looking to add more depth and experience to their project management group.



Duties and Responsibilities

You will be overseeing the planning, coordination and project management of road, pavement, and municipal construction projects with the following additional responsibilities:


  • Manage and participate in all administrative aspects for the department, through direct involvement in daily operations including strategic planning of construction project and preparation of construction schedules in conjunction with the Manager of Construction and Maintenance
  • Develop, interpret, analyze and forecast project budgets and determine the status of the project in terms of scheduling, scope, budget and quality
  • Provide planning, leadership, direction and technical expertise to manage complex tasks and multi-discipline projects
  • Ensure construction occurs according to schedule and within budgetary guidelines without sacrificing quality
  • Conduct project meetings as required
  • Coordinate, manage and communicate with contractors and consultants and effectively deal with problems such as delivery, labor, scheduling, land negotiations, utility approvals and payment disputes
  • Provide engineering/design/survey support for various projects
  • Maintains inventories of approvals
  • Maintains accurate and timely records and reports
  • Grants applications and follow up administration of grant applications for applicable project
  • Provides regular updates to the General Manager



Desired Skills and Experience

  • Post secondary education in civil engineering technology, or a combination of equivalent education and experience
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in the planning, design and/or construction of civil engineering projects (roads) including a minimum of three years experience in a managerial/project management capacity
  • Project Management Certificate
  • Substantial project management experience overseeing multiple construction and infrastructure projects is considered an asset
  • Prior municipal experience, including development and/or management of municipal utility systems is also considered an asset
  • Experience in managing and leading teams to gain successful outcomes
  • Self-starter with field experience
  • Skills Required:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.)
  • Ability to interact well with, and respond to inquiries from all levels of employees, including management, ratepayers and council
  • Must be self-motivated, and able to work with little or no supervision
  • Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee and contractor performance
  • Demonstrated leadership capability
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Familiarity with administering contracts and consultant contracts and related duties including letter writing
  • Ability to understand surveying information and to read plans
  • Familiar with construction standards
  • Ensures public safety and security
