Intent:

It is the intent that the Project Superintendent will act in the interest of Baseline Constructors Inc. and ensure that the morals, ethics and standards of the company and its employees are reflected. The Project Superintendent will ensure the smooth operation of the site on a daily basis and assist the Project Manager with communication reports, meeting participation and contract documentation as required. You will report directly to Chris de Lange. The Superintendent assumes a wide range of responsibilities in the process of managing, coordinating and organizing construction activities.

 

Project Superintendent Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  •   Work in conjunction with the Project Manager and perform the day to day site duties associated with running a multi-trade ICI job site/contract
  •   Monitor field work to ensure compliance with company’s standards, specifications, drawings, etc., and conduct quality control measures
  •   Controlling, coordinating & directing subcontractors
  •   Participating in the setup and orderly management of project administration files
  •   Participating with the Project Manager in expediting project work via negotiated Subcontracts and Purchase Orders, Letters of Intent RFI, Change Orders and other Contract documents
  •   Participating in correspondence to Owner, Architect, Engineers, sub-trades and suppliers in cooperation with the Project Manager and Superintendent
  •   Participating with the Project Manager to ensure document control (distribution of drawings & specifications) and preparation of Operation & Maintenance manuals, Red Line drawings, etc.
  •   Participating in preparing and updating the project construction schedule
  •   Participating with cost control, proper coding and managing the project within budget
  •   Ensure complete, accurate daily site documentation
  •   Ability to understand subcontractor scope and provide management of the subcontract to avoid unnecessary costs
  •   Participating with the Project Manager in managing the shop drawing submittals log and approvals process
  •   Managing and monitoring site labour requirements
  •   Tracking deliveries of purchased equipment and critical materials
  •   Arrange and manage site equipment needs with suppliers and rental companies and maintaining field rental ledgers
  •   Set an example by maintaining and emphasizing site safety in accordance with regulatory requirements as well as our Corporate Health & Safety Policy
  •   Performance & Documentation of Hazard Analysis, Site Safety inspections, Safety Talks and JHSC recommendations as directed by the Project Manager & Safety Officer
  •   Attending project site meetings and conducting sub-trade coordination meetings in conjunction with the Project Manager and excelling in the expeditious completion of project deficiencies
  • Achieve a complete understanding of the Baseline Policy Statement as well as our company ethics, culture and capabilities, and performing duties in that context
  • Pursue training and development opportunities, striving to continually build knowledge and take opportunities to share expertise with others
  •   Development of a 2 week look ahead schedule circulated on a weekly basis
  •  Other related duties as requested and dictated by project needs

     

Qualifications:

  •  Working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, etc.
  •   At least 10 years of experience in the construction industry
  •   Proficient MS Office and Windows-based computer applications skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  •   The ability to use/learn industry-specific software programs such as Viewpoint and MS Project
  •   Strong organizational skills
  •   Attention to details
  •   Valid driver’s license
  •   Strong code of ethics
  •   Service oriented, strong interpersonal and written communication skills

  •   Ability to work under pressure & coordinate numerous activities and subcontractors concurrently
  •   Flexibility to quickly delegate and re-assign tasks as conditions dictate

  •   Ability to read/understand blueprints, structural designs, building layouts, and quantity surveying
  •   Ability to provide timely, accurate and thorough communication to internal and external customers in a friendly and professional manner

  •   Possesses an outgoing personality in order to develop new relationships
  •   Ability to work individually and as part of a team

Working Conditions:

  •   Most of the work is carried out in a site office and/or on a construction site
  •   Exposure to construction site environments including inclement weather, loud noises and machinery
  •   Travel is required
  •   Critical position with intense demands
