Sr. Estimator 

Cambridge, Ontario

As a Senior Construction Estimator, you will use your strong analytical and technical capabilities to prepare timely and accurate project quotations. You will provide accurate bids for tenders, and budgets for potential and awarded project work to meet or exceed CSL’s expectations of profitability and delivery of projects.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Acquire understanding of the requirements of the project/program at hand
• Select metrics to produce valid estimates, review and evaluate cost
• Prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
• Analyze data and produce forecasts of probable labour and material costs
• Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers and contractors
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications
• Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects
• Operate CADD systems
• Perform risk analysis
• Communicate with trade partners and team members regarding new and current projects
• Prepare estimates and purchase orders in detail for all products
• Ensure timely completion of estimates
• Understand scope of work to bid
• Obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price
• Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and subcontractors
• Prepare work to be accomplished by gathering information and requirements; setting priorities • Prepare construction budget by studying home plans; updating specifications; identifying and projecting costs for each elevation
• Evaluate offers to purchase by costing changes, additions, and site requirements
• Maintain cost keys and price masters by updating information
• Resolve cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
• Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
• Maintain continuity among corporate, division, and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
• Visit sites, warehouses and other venues to gather essential information
• Mentor and support junior estimating staff

 

Education and Experience

• Diploma or degree in engineering, construction science/management or relevant field

• CEC or GSC certification is an asset

 

Qualifications

• Proven experience as construction estimator (10+ years)
• Deep understanding of research methodology, data analysis and estimation metrics • Comfortable with numbers and technology
• Knowledge of market labour and equipment rates
• Expertise in Excel
• Outstanding knowledge of related estimating software/programs such as Timberline • Great attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation abilities
• Well-organized and reliable
